The home of the Count of Pinofiel was a "palace house" built in 1762, a wonderful example of civil baroque architecture right in the historic heart of Antequera. In 2004 it was converted to a luxury hotel, a task that was pursued with exceptional care and attention to detail, retaining originality wherever possible. Consequently, we see doors, windows, stone and brick panelling, columns and floors which have been here for nearly 250 years. While the atmosphere is unique and historic, the facilities are up-to-the-minute, with luxurious bathrooms, elegant decorations, air-conditioning and broadband internet access among its features. The hotel is well adapted for disabled guests too.

There is a lounge, a wine bar-bistro and meeting rooms, but the crowning glories of the interior are the main staircase with its decorated vaulted ceiling and the colonaded patio surrounding the fountain. And should you be overwhelmed by the romance of it all, Casa Conde de Pinofiel has its own chapel (also dating from 1762) where you can celebrate your wedding.

Located right in the cultural centre of Antequera, the hotel is itself a part of the history and culture. It's a lovely town to visit, and a perfect base for touring around the hinterland of Andalucia, regardless of whether your interest is archaeology, history, nature or walking. Humans have been leaving their mark on this area for 5000 years, yet so much remains untouched.

Restaurant:

The hotel does not have a restaurant, but the "El Salaero" bar is a charming base to sit and chat, enjoy a drink and try some of the delicious snacks so typical of Spanish fare. Breakfast is served here too.

Here is another magnificent building from Spain's rich heritage, brought back to life and brought up-to-date for a new role in the 21st century. Take time to sip a glass of wine or sherry in the "El Salaero" bar and sample their delicious range of cheeses and jamón ibérico (dry-cured ham).
