Hotel Mas Crisaran

A small luxury hotel near the Costa Brava

This welcoming little luxury hotel, Mas Crisaran, was originally a 15th century manor house. It lies in the Bajo Ampurdán, close to the best parts of the Costa Brava and surrounded by interesting little villages with many medieval buildings. From this privileged position, the sea is only 15 minutes away, and so too are three different golf courses, for those who are so inclined.

The past travels of the owners are reflected in the decoration and furnishing of the house, which is imbued with a delightfully modern interpretation of colonial style: furniture from India, African masks and paintings, and all sorts of wall-hangings and rugs, co-exist happily alongside English furniture and various family heirlooms. Some of the rooms (Nairobi, Ladakh and Kerala, for instance) trace the stories of journeys to India and Africa, while the Portobelo suite is dedicated to Panama.

There is a generously appointed lounge, a relaxing garden and pool, and a glass-walled restaurant from which you can just make out the imposing old fortress of Montgrí. Finally there is traditional cooking and a careful attention to the needs of the guests, all dedicated to making Mas Crisaran a home-from-home for discerning visitors.

Restaurant:

The large windows of the restaurant look out on the garden, and are open in summer. The traditional style of cooking is adjusted to suit the availability of the season, and you can enjoy a different dinner menu every day. On occasions, a "Jaima" is served in the garden, with the authentic desert flavours of Moroccan cuisine.

In summer, tapas are served at the picnic bar by the swimming pool.

Golf: reduced green fees for residents are available at the Emporda, Pals, Serre de Pals and PGA de Girona golf courses and the Pitch & Putt at Gualta. - Pre-historic village at Ullastret and the ruins of Ampurias.
- Dalí Triangle: Museum in Figueres, Dalí's house in Port Lligat and his house in Gala en Púbol.
- Gerona (or Girona) with its Jewish quarter, the hanging houses suspended over the Onyar river, the Cathedral, floral exhibition in May.
- The Bajo Ampurdan is a place for artists: galleries, museums and antique sales.
- Festivals of Music, Dance and Theatre in Perelada, Torroella de Montgrí, Ampurias, Calella and Gerona.

What We Say:

The owners of Mas Crisaran have travelled extensively throughout Africa and India, and wherever they have gone they have accumulated furniture, lamps, hangings, rugs and decorations. Then having turned an ancient Spanish manor house into a hotel, they have managed to integrate the several diverse styles into one beautifully integrated design. A triumph of good taste. We recommend early booking, especially in high season.
