What a perfect location for a city break in Barcelona! The Duquesa de Cardona is situated in the very heart of Barcelona, just by the world-famous Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter. The hotel is a historic building from the middle-1800s, an aristocratic townhouse that was once a refuge for royalty, it has been remodelled to retain its spirit of history in a modern context.
It’s larger than other “Little Hotels” but merits inclusion in Little Hotels of Spain because of the personal attention that each guest receives, as well as the quality of the hotel and its exceptional position.
Although the hotel is close to all the important attractions of Barcelona, it doesn’t feel like a city centre hotel due to its proximity to the waterfront. On one side is the city, but on the other there is the crystal-clear light of the Mediterranean. From the rooftop terrace and many of the rooms there are magnificent panoramic views from Montjuich Park, down past the Christopher Columbus monument to the Olympic Marina.
Duquesa De Cardona is blessed with magnificent public rooms, but its unique feature is the rooftop swimming pool and terrace that give views right along the promenade of the Paseo Colon, over the Port Vell and straight out to sea.
All of the rooms are spacious and elegantly equipped to four star standards. The exterior rooms face out to sea or onto the Calle Mercé which was the original principal façade of the building. Other rooms face into the inner court, ideal for those who wish to be isolated from the sounds of the city. The Junior Suite and the Deluxe rooms have fabulous views over the harbour and marina. One floor is completely given over to non-smoking rooms, and there are rooms specially adapted for disabled guests.
A short walk up the Ramblas brings many of Barcelona’s best sights within easy range, and the excellent metro system makes the remainder readily accessible too.
Restaurant:
The elegant restaurant is a room with towering arches and high ceilings, yet surprisingly intimate. The cuisine is based on the Mediterranean principles of fresh ingredients and healthy preparation.Hover on a picture to pause the slideshow, click for some bigger photos

What We Say:
Yes, Duquesa de Cardona is bigger than our norm, but it meets the most essential criteria for inclusion in Little Hotels of Spain: it's a hotel that we would want to stay in. Being right on the coast, there can be no urban sprawl on the seaward side, so you can stay in the Duquesa de Cardona in the very heart of Barcelona, yet enjoy the fresh Mediterranean air and light that comes from the sea. The Port Vell area has been turned from the old commercial port into a fresh, modern, spohisticated, fashionable waterside full of bars, restaurants, gardens and marinas. If you only ever do one city break in your lifetime, this should be it.Customer Feedback:
"We will return to the hotel and would certainly recommend it to family and friends."
"Beautiful suite lots of space, enormous very comfy bed. I loved the separate dressing room with more hangers than even I needed. The location is great a short walk from Las Ramblas. Small rooftop pool, great view, super spot in warm weather. Plenty of good restaurants nearby. I'd definitely stay here again."
" The location is excellent, the roof terrace and plunge pool are a real bonus for a city hotel, and the reception staff were always friendly and cheerful. The rooms were nice and the bathrooms were breath-takingly beautiful." R.C.
