This old Dominican Monastery has been rebuilt to become an elegant rural hotel located in the wine country of La Rioja. Constructed of massive stone blocks, with elaborate timber roofs and ceilings, the Hospedería looks out onto the grand entrance of the original monastery.

The hotel occupies the buildings which were once the schools of Saint Nicholas and Our Lady of Mercy renowned in their day for their vast dimensions and delicate architecture. The careful renovation and restoration by the owners provides 15 large guestrooms, each uniquely decorated with numerous features such as precious stones set in metal forgings, lamps, paintings and mirrors. Despite the massive masonry in the façade, the atmosphere within is welcoming and friendly. The rooms offer the visitor every luxury, and the bathrooms are quite exceptional examples of neo-medieval decoration.

There is so much to do here in the heart of La Rioja: everyone will want to sample the area's most famous product, but don't miss out on the walks, the cycling or motor tours, the wildlife, or even adventure activities.

There is no restaurant, but breakfast is served and some snacks are available. The hotel will be most pleased to recommend some local restaurants, and make bookings for you.

In total there are more than 10,000 fossilised dinosaur footprints to be found in La Rioja, spread amongst the river valleys of the Leza, Cidacos, Alhama and Linares. The quality and quantity of these 120 million-year-old artefacts make the region one of the most interesting places in the world for dinosaur enthusiasts.

What We Say:

Look out for the delightful little decorative features all around the hotel, and the large murals (called "trampantojos") on walls and doors. Not everything is what it seems!

Cancellations:

Cancellation must be received in writing (fax or e-mail) no later than 7 days before arrival. Cancellations within less than 7 days result in a loss of deposit. Cancellations within 48 hours of scheduled arrival, no-shows or early departures will be charged the amount.
